ECONOMIC CLASSES : ENTERPRENEURS
In order to immigrate to Canada as an entrepreneur, you must have business experience. Specifically, you must have managed a qualifying business and controlled a percentage of equity of the qualifying business for at least two years in the period beginning five years before the date of application. In addition to having business experience, entrepreneurs must have a net worth of at least $300,000.
Within three years of becoming permanent resident, entrepreneurs are required to have controlled at least one third of the equity of a qualifying Canadian business and actively managed a qualifying Canadian business for a period of at least one year. The business must have created employment opportunities for others.
As an entrepreneur, you will be required to sign a declaration stating that that you intend and will be able to meet the conditions of permanent residence.
Family member of entrepreneurs are admitted to Canada under the same conditions as the entrepreneur. All the conditions are removed once the entrepreneur satisfies the conditions.
If you successfully meet the definition of the entrepreneur class you will be assessed against five selection criteria including age, education, official languages, experience and adaptability. There are a specific number of points allotted for each criterion. A successful applicant should have a mark above 35 points or your application may be refused.
