ECONOMIC CLASSES : INVESTORS

If you have a net worth of at least $800,000 Canadian you may qualify to immigrate to Canada as a business class investor.

A potential investor immigrant to Canada must have business experience either managing a “qualifying business” and controlling a percentage of equity of a qualifying business for at least two years in the five year period preceding the date of the application, or, have managed at least five full time job equivalents per year in a qualifying business for at least two years in the five years preceding the date of the application.

A “qualifying business” is defined as a business for which in each of any of the two years in the period beginning five years before the date of the application and ending on the date of the interview decision, there is proof of any two of the following:

1. That the percentage equity multiplied by the number of full-time job equivalents is equal to or greater than two-full time job equivalents per year.
2. That the percentage of equity multiplied by the total annual sales is equal to or greater than $500,000.
3. That the percentage of equity multiplied by the net income of the year is equal to or greater than $50,000; and
4. That the percentage of equity multiplied by the net assets at the end of the year is equal to or greater than $25,000.

Investors are required to make an investment of $400,000. The investment is first paid to the Receiver General of Canada and subsequently allocated to participating provinces and territories in Canada. The provinces and territories control the investment during the five year lock-in period. The investment is fully guaranteed by provinces and territories that participate in the program. Investors are not required to start a business in Canada and no immigration conditions are imposed on investors upon admission to Canada.

If you successfully meet the definition of the investor class you will be assessed against five selection criteria including age, education, official languages, experience and adaptability. There are a specific number of points allotted for each criterion. A successful applicant should have a mark above 35 points or the application may be refused.

If you would like more information on the investor business class or if you would like to set up a meeting with Mr. Champoux, CALL 604-687-3848 or e-mail rachampoux@racl.ca.
