ECONOMIC CLASSES : SELF-EMPLOYED PERSONS
Self-employed immigrants must have experience, intention and ability to establish a business that will, at minimum, create an employment opportunity for themselves and that will make a significant contribution to cultural activities or athletics in Canada, or must purchase and manage a farm in Canada.
In order to qualify as a self-employed immigrant, you must have relevant experience. Relevant experience is:
1. self-employment in cultural activities or athletics; or
2. participation, at the world class level, in cultural activities or athletics; or
3. farm management experience.
The relevant experience must have occurred for at least two years in the period beginning five years before the date of application. No immigration conditions are imposed on self-employed immigrants.
If you successfully meet the definition of the self-employed class you will be assessed against five selection criteria including age, education, official languages, experience and adaptability. There are a specific number of points allotted for each criterion. A successful applicant should have a mark above 35 points or your application may be refused.
