Canada Study Permit For Students

A study permit grants you permission to study in Canada at a specific school, college or university.

Before you are issued a Canada study permit you generally require a letter of acceptance from the educational institution you wish to attend.

In certain cases, it may be possible to get a study permit approved in writing before entering Canada and without written documentation from the educational institution.

Foreign students who are minor children already in Canada do not need a study permit to attend primary or secondary school, except those children whose parents are visitors.

The parents also do not need to obtain a letter of acceptance from a primary or secondary school in order to apply for study permits for their accompanying minor children.

If you are from a country whose citizens require a visa to seek entry to Canada then you need to obtain a visa before traveling to Canada to seek entry as a temporary resident.

Your visa will be issued by a Canadian visa office and placed in your passport to show that you have met the requirements for admission to Canada as a temporary resident.

If you need to renew your study permit go to the page regarding extending your stay in Canada.
