Applying for a Canadian Study
Permit
If you wish to work or become a Permanent Resident of Canada then you must have an immigration strategy which includes studying at the right school in order to give you the best chance of achieving this.
Beware that some schools do not have available on campus work or do not give you the ability to work off campus and some schools do not allow you to get a post-graduate work permit.
You should carefully select your educational program and institution to ensure future employment prospects and immigration options.
You may also need a temporary resident visa in addition to a study permit, depending on your citizenship and country of residence. Click here to see a list of countries whose citizens require a visa to enter Canada. You need to submit your application and required documents to the visa office that is responsible for the region where you live.
If you are a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, Saint-Pierre and Miquelon or Greenland, you can apply for the study permit at the point of entry when you arrive in Canada.
You may also need a medical examination or police certificate if you plan to study in Canada for a period of more than 6 months, and have lived or traveled in a designated country or territory for six consecutive months, at any time during the previous year.
